Random side note of the day: My faucet in my apartment says "Made in West Germany." No further explanation required.
Last night I went out with some friends, and we're walking around Beirut not really knowing what to do, so we decided to ask a local what there is to do around here. I asked this girl near me, and turns out that she was from Maryland and graduated from University of Maryland and went to Blake High School a few years ago, which was very close to the high school I went to. What are the odds that I'd meet someone like that all the way over here?? She was with two friends traveling around the world and was in Beirut for a few weeks.
Right now I'm sitting in my apartment while the power is going on and off every 45 seconds or so. It's really annoying because my A/C makes a really annoying noise everytime it starts up and it's all the way across the room so I don't want to get up to turn it off. This could really be bad for people who use the elevator though. The electricy could go out for hours at a time, and I'm 90% sure there's no way out of the elevator if the power goes out. And this is a TINY elevator. It can almost fit one person comfortably. Oh, and you get to see the concrete walls as the elevator goes up and down because there's no door on it.

I've been out to eat a few times here, and it took a while to realize that the service at these restaurants is nothing like back home. In the states, the waiters want you to eat and leave so they can seat someone else and make more money. They rush to get your order, bring your food, and give you the check. I guess that could be good if you're a busy person, but here it's the opposite. If you don't call for your waiter he'll never come to your table. The first time I went, I sat at a table for 20 minutes wondering why no one was serving me even though I was the ONLY person in the restaurant. It took an hour and a half for me to eat a sandwhich and leave. The one good thing that this place has over America is that everywhere delivers. Even McDonalds. You think I'm joking?

Yup. Even McDonalds delivers. It's probably a good thing that we don't have this in the States.
The next day we went to do karaoke. We got to the place and were hanging out before it started. Oh, side note, EVERYONE here in Lebanon smokes. Literally everyone. There's no laws against it anywhere, so they'd be smoking in restaurants, bars, classrooms, you name it. When someone asked our waiter if they could smoke in the building, he said "This is Lebanon. We even smoke in church."
Anyway, all the people at the karaoke place were picking such sad songs! Being typical annoying and disrespectful Americans, we decided we'd fill the place with our own music. So we sang songs like "A Whole New World" from Alladin (I did the girl part), Backstreet Boys, Bon Jovi, and Frosty the Snowman.
